What is "gas" and how does it affect the price of NFT's?

Gas is what's used to calculate transaction fees when interacting with the Ethereum blockchain. Ethereum executes programs called smart contracts to perform different functions, and these programs vary in complexity. The more involved or complex a given smart contract, the more gas is required to fuel the transaction. Minting an NFT, for example, requires more gas than simply sending some ETH from one wallet to another.

Minting NFTs and transferring them between wallets both require interacting with an Ethereum smart contract, and thus cost gas to do so.

Are all NFTs on Ethereum?

While other NFT-supporting blockchains exist, such as

BSC,

Solana,

Polygon,

Flow, and

Tezos, the vast majority of the ecosystem is still transacting on

ETH. High value projects like CryptoPunks, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Pudgy Penguins are all natively on Ethereum.

Top NFT marketplaces like OpenSea, LooksRare, Rarible, NiftyGateway, and KnownOrigin all depend upon Ethereum as well. Like it or not,

ETH is currently the dominant chain for buying and selling NFTs. And until sufficient ETH scaling comes along, transaction fees will not always be cheap.

These levels represent the current amount it costs to have your transaction confirmed within the given time period. For most cases, selecting "Slow" should be fine.
