What are Funding Rates?
Funding rates exist in derivative markets as a way to maintain a balance between the price of a futures or perpetual contract and the price of the underlying asset. The fee is expressed as a percentage. If the funding rate is positive, traders who have long positions pay the funding fee to those who have short positions. When the rate is negative, traders with short positions pay the fee to those with long positions.
Funding rate arbitrage
Some traders closely monitor markets to find ways to profit off these funding rates. Specially, traders find opportunities to sell perps while simultaneously buying the underlying spot asset to capture risk-free returns. Use our Funding Rate Alerts to help detect these opportunities. How often do funding rates update?
Each futures exchange we monitor currently updates their funding rate every 8 hours, although this could change in the future.Monitoring funding rates in real-time
